Let’s Start Simple: Grow Something at Home

Hey everyone,

I thought I would start this blog series properly with something small, gentle, and honestly a little magical. Growing something at home. Nothing complicated. Nothing that needs a huge garden or a green thumb. Just a few plants that can live on your windowsill, help the air feel fresher, support bees, or make your cooking taste better.

Most people do not realise how much joy one tiny plant can bring into a home. It gives you a reason to check in, to slow down, and to feel connected to something living. And I think that is a perfect beginning for The Meadow Journal.

Here are a few easy things you can grow no matter where you live.

Easy Herbs for Cooking

These are perfect if you want a little fresh from the plant feeling while you cook.

Basil

Loves warmth and bright light
Keep soil slightly damp
Perfect for pasta, salads, pesto, or on warm bread

Rosemary

Needs lots of sunlight
Prefers drier soil
Amazing with potatoes, bread, soups

Parsley

Grows well even with less sun
Keep soil moist
Great for sauces, soups, fresh salads

Mint

Grows fast

Perfect for tea, lemon water, or desserts
Keep mint in its own pot because it spreads quickly

A Tiny Growing Guide for Anyone Who Says I Always Kill Plants

Here are the three things plants need most.

Light

Place them where they can see the sky. Even bright shade works.

Drainage

A pot with a hole at the bottom makes a huge difference.

Consistency

Not perfect care. Just regular small check ins.
Water when the top soil feels dry, not every day.

Why This Matters for Moon and Meadow

Growing something at home might seem small, but this is how you start reconnecting with nature one plant at a time. These tiny choices are the heart of Moon and Meadow. They remind us to slow down, care for something living, and bring a little of the outside world into everyday life.

And I love the idea of all of us growing something together, no matter how small.

If you do plant something after reading this, please tag me or send a photo. I would love to see what your home meadow looks like.

With love,
